What was the Mega Millions Megaplier Feature?
The Megaplier was an optional add-on offered by US Mega Millions that could have potentially increased non-jackpot prize winnings by up to 5 times their original amount. This feature was upgraded as a part of the Mega Millions revamp which kicked off on 8 April, 2025, now called the 'Multiplier'. The Multiplier feature is built-in to the price of a ticket, and can multiply prizes up to 10 times! For instance, if you were to win the US$1 million second-placed prize, with a multiplier of 10x, this could increase to US$10 million. If you're playing online at TheLotter Australia, join the next US MegaLuck draw to see the Mega Extra feature, which mirrors the Multiplier feature, in action!
Still curious about how the Megaplier worked? If so, see the below article, which was written before the changes took place.
How Does the Megaplier Work?
This optional prize multiplier can be added to your Mega Millions entry before the draw. Simply mark the “Megaplier” box after you’ve filled in your lucky numbers and you have a chance to increase any secondary winnings by 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x!
At the draw, a single number between 2 and 5 is randomly selected from a separate barrel. This number represents the how many times the non-jackpot prizes will be multiplied for the lucky winners who added the Megaplier to their ticket.
Why Should You Add the Mega Millions Megaplier to Your Ticket?
Taking advantage of the Megaplier feature can significantly increase your non-jackpot winnings by up to 5 times the original prize amount. In other words, more money in your pocket for simply adding a small extra cost to your Mega Millions ticket!
Imagine winning US$10,000 and multiplying that by 5 times - that's US$50,000!
The Megaplier not only offers a chance to boost secondary winnings but also adds an element of excitement to every draw.
How Much More Can You Win With the Megaplier?
This depends on two factors: the prize category you match and the Megaplier number selected. To give you an idea of just how much more you can potentially win, if the Megaplier number is 4 and you match the second prize category, instead of winning US$1 million, your prize will be increased to US$4 million. That's an extra US$3 million!
Even smaller prizes can receive a significant boost with the magic of the Mega Millions Megaplier. Combine the lottery's fifth-place prize with the Megaplier number 5, and your winnings will go from US$200 to US$1,000!

Do You Need the Megaplier Feature to Win the Jackpot Prize?
The Megaplier feature only applies to non-jackpot prizes. Whether you add the Megaplier to your ticket or not, you will always have a shot at winning the Mega Millions jackpot prize!
What Are the Odds of Winning a Mega Millions Megaplier Prize?
Adding the Megaplier feature to your ticket will not affect the odds of winning the draw’s jackpot or secondary winnings.
The Megaplier number is drawn from a separate barrel of 15 balls after the main numbers are chosen. Each Megaplier number is assigned a certain amount of balls. For example, there are six 3X Megaplier balls and just one 5X ball. Check out the odds of each multiplier number being selected:

Is US Powerball’s Power Play Feature Similar to the Megaplier Feature?
Like the Megaplier, the American Powerball Power Play feature is a prize multiplier. The major difference between US Powerball and Mega Millions lies in the maximum increase that can be applied to prizes.
While Mega Millions non-jackpot prizes can be multiplied by up to 5 times their original amount, Powerball prizes have the potential to be boosted by up to 10 times, with the only exception being the US$1 million second-place prize that can only be doubled to US$2 million.
How Can You Multiply Your Lottery Winnings from Australia?
Lucky for Aussie lottery players, we offer US MegaLuck - an exciting alternative to US Mega Millions with the same format, odds, results prizes, and a prize multiplier feature called the “Mega-Extra”.
The Mega-Extra feature is better than the megaplier, as it is based on the new 'multiplier' feature that Mega Millions provides built-in to every ticket. With the Mega-Extra, your non-jackpot winnings can potentially be increased by up to 10 times their original amount.
Want a chance to win even more boosted prizes? Try the US PowerLuck Power-Extra prize multiplier feature!
TheLotter Australia customers are not purchasing lottery tickets or participating in lotteries directly. TheLotter Australia uses third-party agents to purchase lottery tickets; customers are purchasing for the opportunity to receive monies equivalent to prize winnings.
